Post-nuclear-impressionism

So some time last month, the members of Donner Party Picnic converged on a recording studio to chronicle the development of the sonic savagery that they call music.

True to form, it is now January fifth and the first of these songs found their way onto their myspace www.myspace.com/thedonnerpartypicnic we call this song "No Surprise." With any luck, our procrastination will die down tentatively enough for us to get another song mixed, this one being titled "Cheap Gin."

It has come to my attention that there are some people in this world who think i do not sing coherently or audibly enough and for whatever reason some of these people would actually like to understand my lyrics... so by mediocre demand, here are the new ones.

the first is dedicated to the person it is about.

Cheap Gin

We drank cheap gin on the merry-go-round
with a man who wore the statue of liberty's crown

They say his name was five hundred grand
he made a living for himself collecting empty cans

He had it all, a fantastic view
of the Manhattan skyline and Riker's Island, too

When it would rain, he slept under the overpass
where cars on the belt parkway go and spill their gas

We drank cheap gin on the merry-go-round
with a man who thought he was the statue of liberty


The next is a story about taking the term "seeing the world through someone else's eyes" literally.

No Surprise

Bucket of brains, bucket of toes
So it came as no surprise
When I came across a bucket of eyes
Well I've stood in many people's shoes
Some suede and stolen blues
But I've never seen through some one's eyes

Dancing down the delta line
Yes, they were born to ramble
Five men left, one lost his mind
In a Russian gamble

Late one night of grog and wine
Woman from a sailor song
Peeled back her skin, revealed her fins
And swam off for Hong Kong

Stolen glances, teepees built from stegosaurus bones
by desert people who would dance around a throne
out of which the sky has grown
and from who's seed the earth had sown
and all these things you've never known
until you took these eyes on loan

A million tiny alligators sitting on a shelf
Learned to work a sewing machine and made boots of themselves




Well, there they are. I hope these bring you some peace of mind, comfort in a time of need and save you thousands of dollars in therapy for turmoil you would undoubtably have suffered without this information.
